Last week my sister send me a picture of gluten free pizza.. Now you will probably think doesn’t this already exist? Well it does but only if you make one yourself and a nice and thin crust is really difficult to reproduce in a gluten free version. She was so enthusiastic about this new place in her neighborhood that we decided to go there for a quick weeknight dinner. Mr. Husband was really keen on trying this…his first pizza in a year!
The Zurenborg neighborhood in Antwerp has a lot of nice places to dine such as Dôme, Verandah, Primo and our all-time favorite Dôme sur Mer. With Primo just around the corner I was wondering what Orso could contribute?
We were welcomed by Isabelle who showed us to the only available table in this small and cosy restaurant. Orso can seat 16 people.
Personal service, freshly baked pizza’s and biological wines from the family domain in Italy. What more do you need for a nice night out?
On the menu a lot of pizza’s that you can order with a gluten free crust for only 2 € extra. There is a pizza with swordfish, a pizza with vegetables, a pizza without tomato sauce…a lot of choice.
Hard choice….we choose two gluten free pizza’s so we could share and Isabelle made sure we both got two halves on our plate so no more slicing and sharing..great! The crust was really crispy and tasty and if you wouldn’t know it to be gluten free, you wouldn’t taste it. The Orso team gets the dough straight from Italy, next trip to Italy I’d say!
Orso is a small and cosy restaurant that serves fresh food with a smile…what more do you need?
You need to make a reservation because the locals have already discovered this great spot. You can also order take away! We wille certainly return.
Orso – Grote Beerstraat 46 Antwerpen
Important: I think Orso is not suited for people with a severe gluten allergy or coeliakie because of contamination in the pizza oven!
