As you know I love to browse cookbooks to find inspiration. My latest finds are Vegalicious and Rauw, both nice cookbooks. I must say the whole raw cooking hype is not entirely for me. On hot days I will certainly prepare some of these cold soups and raw salads for sure. The Vegalicious cookbook contains easy and reachable recipes and offer a nice inspiration for easy weekdays . In the last chapter star rated chefs give you their take on a fancy veggy menu, also interesting to read.
Lately I have received some cookbooks to review and I’d like to tell you about two of them.
First let me talk to you about the cookbook of radio presenter Sven Ornelis titled Would Be Chef. It is a nice book where Sven Ornelis talks about how he loves to entertain and goes to restaurants. In this book he shares his secrets and tips for easy entertaining as well as healthy dishes he ate during his diet and some favorites from his childhood and travels. I was happily surprised to read Sven’s recipe for steamed vealballs with chicory. I make a variation to this recipe since like…forever when I am home alone and in need of comfort food. Where Sven steams his chicory and meatballs I bake them first so they get nice and brown on all sides and then I add some extra spices but the main combination is great. And his recipe for skate with lime zest and marsh samphire D E L I C I O U S. Congratulations with your new book Mr. Ornelis.
Secondly there is the superb book of Alain Ducasse focused on Babies and Toddlers Puur Natuur. I just love Mr Ducasses other books in this series so why not this version. I have a test audience right here at home and they were delighted with some of the recipes I have tried out.
The book is divided in 5 chapters: kitchen garden, field, sea, pasture and orchard. Every recipe is explained in an easy way and sometimes even alternatives are mentioned. In this book you can also find a very useful table with information about the different types of food kids can eat for each age starting at 6 months. You all know by now that I am really invested in feeding my kids with healthy yummie food. This book offers creative recipes for the little ones. I tried out the tomato with tomato recipe and must say that the whole family really enjoyed this recipe. That is the great thing about the recipes by Mr. Ducasse, he also mentions how the adults can prepare and eat this recipe. When you still have little ones running around make sure you buy this book. I will share this recipe soon on the blog.
